A domain Google had already given up on, rebuilt on real data

crossborderplus.com is a five-year-old domain that got wrecked when the previous operator dumped 97 AI-generated articles onto it in one day back in 2023. Google filed it under "low-quality content" and the domain sat there.

We didn't spin up a new domain and start over. We wiped the old content, rebuilt on Astro, and wired the site to real data pipelines — because the only way out of that penalty box is provable quality.

Two data pipelines running while the site sleeps

ECB currency-rate pipeline

Frankfurter (ECB official rates) with open.er-api.com as backup. 24 currencies. 365-day history backfilled from Frankfurter time-series in a single request. Output feeds /fintech/send-usd-to-{country} at build time.

Vendor pricing snapshot

15 SaaS vendors monitored (EOR, fintech, incorporation, AI tools). Raw HTML + extracted prices archived per snapshot. Price changes detected automatically. Vendors that Cloudflare-block scrapers (Wise Business, Revolut Business) fall back to a quarterly manual verification file.

Why this shape gets rewarded by Google

The 24 pSEO country-pair pages (send USD to India, send USD to Poland, etc.) aren't dynamic-JS templates hoping for indexation. They're static HTML pre-computed at build time from the CSV output of the ECB pipeline. 10 KB per page. Real fee-comparison math. Real cited rates. Zero client-side JS.

That's what turns "programmatic SEO" from an SEO smell into a page Google actually rewards — because the underlying data is a real live pipeline, not a template-filler.

What ships alongside the pipelines

  • Custom Astro build — Tailwind design system, sitemap + robots automation, AI-crawler policies (GPTBot / ClaudeBot / CCBot / Bytespider blocked from copying content) auto-injected.
  • Cloudflare Pages deploy in under 90 seconds via wrangler pages deploy.
  • 15 affiliate advertiser evaluations funnelled through the same pricing verification pipeline — if the vendor's public price doesn't match the affiliate offer, the ambiguity surfaces before publication.
  • Four pillar guides (EOR, fintech, US incorporation, AI tools) drafted in parallel, with the pillar-pSEO cross-link map maintained by the AI.

Payroll replaced (portfolio-blended): ~$4,350/mo

A research site of this shape traditionally needs 3 roles: a research analyst (vendor pricing + refresh cycles), a web developer (Astro build + pSEO templates + deploy pipeline), and a content editor (pillar drafts + internal linking). ~$5,000/mo lean. Blended into the portfolio ~$650/mo, the marginal cost of this site is negligible.
